Music Review: Club Azuli 5 – Winter 2007

Release Date – Out now

Genre: House/Club
Format: 2 Disc album
Rating: 1/5

Top ten floor-filler I Found You by Axwell is the brilliant opening track to Club Azuli’s Winter 2007 dance compilation. It’s an amazing start and is unfortunately where the great tunage ends as the whole album goes into decline from thereon in. I Found You then mixes albeit flawlessly into Heater by Samim, which is by far one of the most teeth hurtingly annoying tunes of all time – possibly on a par with Cotton Eye Joe.

The rest of the compilation seems like one bland continuous drone of unfulfilling, unexciting, uninteresting blah. There’s a constant feel of waiting for something to happen but it never does. There are no climaxes to really get you going nor is there much variation in the beat which just makes you want to fall asleep rather than lose yourself in an all encompassing dance trance.

There’s a ‘DJ friendly’ unmixed version also available (so this is the mixed version?!) ready for turntablists everywhere to put their own spin on things and probably markedly improve on this version without an ounce of effort.

Club Azuli 5’s Winter 2007 compilation is not worth parting with your dosh for if you want to get yourself in the mood to go out clubbing…unless of course you stick I Found You on repeat that is.

Press release:
Azuli are one of the most respected names in dance music. Their Club Azuli imprint has spawned some of the coolest club nights in the UK, a spectacular residency at the legendary Space Ibiza and an album series that sets the standards in dance music compilations.

The Club Azuli series is without doubt one of the most credible collections available. The trademark, forward thinking, electronic edged house sound perfectly walks the line between commercial and credible. There are always recent hits included but only alongside the carefully selected future hits and undiscovered gems.

Also, never forgetting their clubland roots, Azuli have made sure that Club Azuli 5 - Winter 2007 is also available in a DJ friendly, unmixed format, allowing turntablists everywhere to indulge their dancefloors with the Club Azuli sound. With 20 tracks on the unmixed album for under £10, this makes Club Azuli 5 better value than downloading the tracks!

CD1 kicks off with the massive top 10 hit ‘I Found U’ by Axwell, a tune that was tearing up dancefloors in Ibiza all season, mixing straight into another track that also did some serious summer dancefloor damage, ‘Heater’ by Samim. This tune is destined for huge chart success and as always, Azuli spotted it early. CD1 represents the house vibe of Club Azuli and the house heads will be happy with tracks and remixes from names such as Joi Cardwell, DJ Gregory and Guy Gerber.

CD2 takes things in an edgier, electronic direction, creating the underground sound that has the trash glamour crowds baying for more in the main room at the Club Azuli nights in London. The tracklist is littered with names such as Claude Von Stroke, Steve Angello, Kammishake and undisputed rising star of the scene, Deadmau5. These are names that will have those who love their music drooling at the prospect of this mix. With tracks including Innersphere a.k.a Shinedoe ‘Phunk’ (Steve Angello edit) and James Talk ‘Remote’ (Deadmau5 remix), Club Azuli have delivered yet another mix that lets you close your eyes and lose yourself in a sonic journey of discovery.
