The Cribs- Men’s Needs

Release date: May 14 2007
Format: Single
Genre: Indie pop
Our Rating: 3/5

The single Men’s Needs is catchy enough and you can see why the band has a reputation for writing cracking pop anthems. Excellent guitar work and vocals, the sounds reminded me of the Stereophonics and maybe Razorlight.  It’s certainly nothing we haven’t heard before but enjoyable none the less. They have a major reputation as a live band and will surely make a breakthrough to the big time at some point.

Press release

The Cribs have announced details of a brand new single, entitled "Men’s Needs" it’s lifted from their forthcoming longplayer "Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever".

The single heralds a new chapter in the life of the band which has witnessed the brothers Jarman emerge from the success of their previous album "The New Fellas" and the subsequent chart action that ensued with the singles that accompanied it, particularly the pop nous of "Hey Scenesters", "Mirror Kissers" et al which propelled the band into previously uncharted territories.

2006 saw the band back-peddle into the background concentrating on writing new material and cherry picking who they wanted to work with and to that end they entered a studio in Vancouver late last year with Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand) who as well as being on the "same wavelength" also loved the new songs, the resultant recordings have those in the know slobbering in anticipation and will undoubtedly see The Cribs raise their benchmark yet again.

The first of these is the single ’Men’s Needs’  which  has already proved a favourite as witnessed on the band’s recent jaunt around the UK, whilst with Mr Kapranos at the helm it appears to harness the song-writing strengths of the brothers without losing the punk rock ethos of the band.

The album, "Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever" (WEBB126CD) is released on 21st May.
