A rude and misanthropic dentist (Ricky Gervais) undergoes a near death experience and develops the ability to interact with ghosts. He finds the constant pestering to be annoying though and becomes embroiled with ghost Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) who wants him to break up the imminent marriage of his widow Gwen.
