Ricci Stoene

Ricci Stoene

  • Profession: Designer and Stylist

New kid on the block and one to watch is little known designer Ricci Stoene.
Ricci lives and works in Swiss Cottage and is a familiar face in Camden. Having left the music industry over a year ago after a friend’s death he pursued his passion for fashion and clothes and is now busy preparing for his debut show that is taking place during London Fashion Week.

He has designed garments for the likes of Gwen Stefani, Emma Bunton, Travis, Blur and Nell McAndrew. Alexandra Aitken will be modelling at his debut show and Emma Bunton and Jade Jagger will be seated in the front row.

One celebrity fan Rachel Hunter refused to give back his clothes after a fashion shoot, "that woman is hard work," jokes
Ricci, who has recently acquired a new showroom with a partner in Lancaster Gate.

MyVillage caught up with the designer to discuss clothes and smelling books - you’ll get it, read on!

What is your favourite shopping city and why?
London, this country has got hunger, a lot of people are exciting, I sound like Bjork now but those people that have hunger are not taken seriously and have pieces that will never see the light of day, this country I believe has many young Galliano’s.

Where do you find inspiration (place, book, person, movement, etc)?
Everything, books and people I am an avid watcher, a continuous seeker always have been, always searching in magazine I get inspiration from architecture, from this room colour co- ordination and music.

How do you define style? Personal as long as you are true to whom you are then that it is your own style. Style is individual.

If time or money were no object, what would your perfect day in London be like? Creating, being creative, I would buy all the fashion and arts book, I love smelling books.

Tell us about a real London fashion gem, for example a great but little known designer or street.
Ricci Stoene, because I guess the designs I create I really believe in and my psychology behind it. I’m going to be really merciless and self promote myself.

If you could pick one garment to wear every day, all season, what would it be?
Jeans. I live in them and I love them.

Is there a particular style that makes you cringe with embarrassment?
Sandals and socks, especially white socks, this applies mainly for guys and is not a good formation.

Who is/are your icon(s)?
Madonna, she came from nothing and everything she’s achieved she’s worked hard for regardless of the method. I find Madonna such an inspiration I really believe that s long as you have breath in your body you can do anything and Madonna kind of signifies that. And as a woman in the industry and at the time when she was around it was Michael Jackson and Prince who she surpassed. Everyone I know regardless of whether you like her music or not everyone says she is amazing so I would say Madonna and my mother.

For what issue would you sacrifice your sense of style?
For someone’s life, clothes are just clothes but someone’s well being is more important than that.

Favourite high street store and designer? I love H&M and I love the way Topshop is full of models, as for designers Vivienne Westwood and McQueen and Ungaro the colours and cut.
I’m not a fan of Versace I think there stuff is really tacky. I think she is in her Elvis period - Elvis is getting blotted and we’re all telling him he’s fantastic, I don’t think there’s anyone around her that’s says what are you doing?
