New album release for Carter - 11/08/02
DJ Jon Carter has revealed plans for a new album. He is planning a new artist album which he describes as perfect for listening to at home.

Talking to Ministry magazine, he say’s he didn’t want to create a "banging" album, especially while the dance market is struggling. The DJ adds that fans can expect some big singles to be released from the LP, including a number of collaborations.

Jon adds that the scaling down of several big UK nights, such as Godskitchen and Cream is also keeping him on his toes. The full interview with Jon Carter is in the September edition of Ministry magazine, out on Tuesday August 13.

Monkey Mafia is the recording name used by Kentish Town’s DJ Carter, a regular on the big beat scene. He was a member of various mediocre pub-rock and cover bands while studying philosophy in Southampton.

Carter moved back to London in 1993 and began learning engineering and production skills in the studios of hardcore and jungle labels such as Trouble On Vinyl and No U-Turn. In 1995, he also recorded a number of tracks for the Wall Of Sound label under the name Artery, including "The Dollar". Carter signed to Heavenly Records later that year.

His debut single for the label, "Blow The Whole Joint Up" was an immediate hit in the UK. In 1996, Carter toured with the Prodigy and remixed tracks for them, Kula Shaker, Saint Etienne and Supergrass.

In early 1997, Monkey Mafia released "Work Mi Body", featuring vocal samples from "Queen Of The Dancehall", Petra. In May 1997, the EP 15 Steps, led by "Lion In The Hall", was released to critical acclaim.

He is now happily married to fellow DJ Sara Cox
